A 1/4 Acre Rural Redesign Project

Following on from the last post on the 11th March, the site survey and assessment has been done.
In short the garden is west north west facing, with a sand / clay soil virtually 50 - 50. The pH is 6.5.
SO pretty good.

Here's the photograph of the soil texture test - basically take the sample of soil place in a jam jar, shake, then leave to settle over a week or so.
what happens is that the heaviest materiel settles first (obviously) that being the sand and very small stones etc.
then the silt then the clay then the Organic matter.
The total is measured and the different divisions of sand silt and clay are themselves measured and a percentage worked out of each.
they are then compared against a soil texture triangle - look up on Google.

What isn't clearly shown in the photo is the 2 different divisions of sand and clay.
which were pretty even. So a sandy clay it is.

Levels

With the assistance of my friend George we measured up using my 2 trusty chain lines and tape measures. The Levels were taken by using a dumpy level courtesy of another friend Steve.
The dimensions and the Levels were then drawn up using a combination Google Earth, Sketchup and Vectorworks.
Looking at the two drawings I've realised that the top drawing which delineates the levels has the existing trees marked and in their positions, whereas the bottom drawing which delineates the dimensions doesn't have them placed, Oh well remember for Time.
The next update will deal with the clients brief and the following concept drawings.
